Selected Option:

The Daring Comics Role-Playing Game is a super-hero game designed around the foundations of Fate Core, giving you everything you need to create your own comic book adventures. More than just a core set of rules, it’s also a toolkit system allowing you to customize your series to get the feel you want at the table.

The Daring Comics Role-Playing Game features:

  • Full Fate system rules.
  • Series and setting creation rules. Choose the power level and tone of your series, and determine the experience level of the heroes. Each choice directly affects how powerful your heroes are at the beginning of the series. The players also help create some of the locations and characters to populate the campaign world, making campaign and setting creation a collaborative effort.
  • Create a cast of supporting characters and a personalized rogues gallery, just like those seen in comics, to gain more benefits for your hero.
  • Dozens of sample stunts and over 100 ready-made powers, along with rules on how to create your own.
  • Create your own character complications, such as powered-armor that can be shut down in a scene, or vulnerability to a particular substance, to gain additional fate points when they come into play.
  • Super Team rules, complete with team aspects and its own set of stunts that are available to all members.
  • An appendix of tips and examples on how to customize various rules to fit your series, such as: variants on several powers, and how to create a team of varied series and experience level heroes.

It’s time to create your world, build your hero, and fight for justice.

It’s time to be a super-hero!

Wasn't there a hardcover option when the book first released?

The hardcover was Kickstarter only. There have been some very strange instances of a Kickstarter Exclusive, which is also fulfilled via DriveThru and therefore in our back-end catalog listing, of somehow being activated for sale without me doing it. But I don't believe that ever happened to Daring Comics RPG.

Sorry really to post in "off topic" way - but I own all your WotD related pdfs. I wanted to go physical but never could find ALL the books either in hardcover or less-desirable softcover in Noble Knight at one time. THEN while ordering some AD&D 1E reprints, I saw it was available as PoD - then, I see was only B&W and wondered - when you DID sell the hardcovers through the World of the Dead KS (before my return to RPGs, I'm SOOO bummed I missed that great deal on the books as add-ons), was that delivered through DTRPG PoD also or was it via "standard" printer on higher quality paper (they only offer std here) and / or color version? I ask because if THIS DTRPG is the same as the stuff in NK - I've been waiting a long time for nothing.

I like this game because it gives the ability to customize (like Aberrant, which is either dead or in Limbo), but it has Fate's built in precautions against minmaxing, a bane of all super games.

Grabbed the softcover and my campaign is off the ground and running. :) We'd tried every kind of supers system for Fate Core (and older!) but nothing quite satisfied like this one.

I got the softcover (received just last night) and I like it a lot. Lee S, if you made a hardcover version available I would buy one of those as well. Your work is worth it!

Thank you for the response and I will keep an eye out for Spotlights!

I assume you'll be able to point purchasers of Daring Comics to where the novels can be found once they are published, so I'll keep an eye out for that as well through 2019!

From the moment I ordered it 11/28 it was 9 days for it to be printed and then delivered and in my hands 12/7. Shipping was $5.14 to get to my location.

Just bought the game a few days ago, and I've read it. I like a lot of it, and I'm very happy with the purchase.

Rather tangential question: I noticed that the website and forum that are mentioned on one of the first few pages is down. Is that a permanent state of affairs?

I spent a good part of tonight going through this game. It's given me quite a few impressions.

Was I glad I bought it? Yes. It's approach to using the Fate system was well done. And well considered.

I'm glad to own it.

If you ever get a POD version up, I'm interested. A 250 pg PDF to run a game though, is just too dense for me, anyway.

Super regret having bought the printed version.

Please stop doing full-page grey-scale backgrounds on your books. Or if you do them, make them super, super light. I just got my copy of this in the mail and its incredibly difficult to read. I had the pdf because I'd backed the KS. I splurged on an at-cost printed copy because of the rules density. I knew I'd need a physical copy if I ever used it at the table. But the the background's massively distracting, diminishes legibility, and works against the reader rather than doing anything to enhance the book. I can only imagine their proof looked nothing like this. Please consider removing the backgrounds for the softcover version.

Just wanted to say thank you a thousand times for including a "no background" version of the pdf. My printer thanks you too.

I can't find Dawn of Legends either.
I'm guessing that if it was on DrivethruRPG, it probably got pulled when they were doing the Daring Comics for Savage Worlds Kickstarter.
So now we don't have either one, unfortunately.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
