Minimalist Dungeon World Playbooks

ADD TO WISHLIST >

By popular demand, here is a full set of the Dungeon World playbooks I prototyped for Thing-a-Day 2012 and have been getting emails about every two or three weeks since then.

They are designed to be printed two-sided on US letter and folded into a half-letter booklet. I recommend HP Premium Choice Laser paper, which is more expensive, but as sexy as you can get at a big-box office supply store.

These playbooks address issues I've noticed my players experiencing at the table, particularly not having space to write things or checkboxes to check things off. There is a basic moves reference on the back page, and a space to sketch your character on the front.

I'm charging $3 because that's half the price of a quad latté at my local independent coffee shop. I'm sure you'd buy me half a latté if I handed you a stack of these at a con, right?

March 2021: Does this have all the classes in the DW Playbook Moves? Seems Immolater was missing as of October 2017. Is that resolved? If I have to build it myself I can't see spending anything on this product.

These playbooks are only current as of their publish date of 2014. Unfortunately, I don't have time or resources to support them and keep them current. Thank you for for your interest.

I adore the simplicity of these.

Would you be interested in having the text translated to Spanish? (I started a translation of my own that's more concise than the available Spanish sheets.)
I know nothing of layout. If you laid out the Spanish text I'm writing, you can add it to the product. I don't need compensation nor recognition. I just wanna play with my friends in Spanish.

Why are debilities missing from the playbooks?

These are the perfect sheets in my book and I plan to use them in the campaign I'm starting in a couple weeks. Only flaw is that, like most others here it seems, I'd love if you could add the Immolator.

Is there any chance you'll be able to add the immolator class to the playbook sometime soon? I absolutely LOVE the work you've done here (I think they should be included in the corebook by default) and would be very excited to use your version of the immolator!

Thanks

These are the very best playbooks for Dungeon World I could find. Easy to read, look good on paper, no errors. They contain basic moves, space for notes, enough space for equipment, space for player portrait, and all the information you could possible want. The folding design is a neat touch.

Skeptical at first but they are completely worth the $3 over the free versions I could find elsewhere.

If you play Dungeon World do yourself a favor and spend the lousy $3.

Too bad these don't exist for some of the other classes you can find online like the Immolator or the classes from Grim World.

Thanks for the great review!

I'll add the Immolator to the next round of revisions. I created a collection of minimalist playbooks for Jacob Randolph's Alternative Classes: http://www.rpgnow.com/product/149702/Minimalist-Alternative-Dungeon-World-Playbooks?src=slider_view

I'm happy to make more playbooks as long as I have permission from the original creators.

I don't know if it's my settings or it's how all printers handle landscape mode, but when printing double-sided, the inside of the booklet is upside down. Maybe there needs to be an instructional note in the document?

The author seems to have omitted a link to the free Barbarian playbook: http://brennenreece.squarespace.com/s/Minimalist-Dungeon-World-Barbarian-Playbook-by-Box-Robot-Games.pdf

It's a great preview and not included in the current download on Drivethru.

Hi Brennen,

The playbooks and spellbooks are really cool! Thanks for making them!

Unfortunately, it looks like the Barbarian playbook is missing the "Eye for Weakness", "On the Move", "Healthy Distrust", and "For the Blood God" Advanced Moves (I think that the last two would fall into your Master Moves category). Would it be possible for you to please add these? Thanks!

Also, I noticed a small typo. In the Barbarian's Gear category, there should be a left parenthesis before the word close in the Two-handed sword option.

Thanks! This is really tiny, but I thought I would point it out: in "On the Move" you accidentally left out the space between bridge and or (making "bridgeor").

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
