25 Quick & Dirty Map Tutorials Guide Book - GPS2001

ADD TO WISHLIST >

25 Quick & Dirty Map Tutorials Guide Book is the first in a series of tutorials guides that intend to teach you how to create stunning, photo-realistic maps for games using any standard graphics application - Photoshop, GIMP, Illustrator, Inkscape, Xara Photo & Graphic Designer, and many other similar applications. These are techniques used by a professional RPG cartographer. This was originally funded by a Kickstarter with the same title as this book. Inside you'll find 25 step-by-step tutorials covering a huge variety of cartography techniques using bevels, shadows, photo image fills and much more.

The tutorials provided require that the user of the appropriate applications have a familiarity with using that software. This guide will not teach you how to use the software, rather by pointing out the required tools within each application, you will be able to follow the step-by-step instructions and complete each tutorial.

Well I see what I can do when I get back from vacation (I'm in California right now and nowhere close to my PC where the original file is). I will be able to check this out the day after Christmas. The fonts I used is a Google font, so I don't see why a Mac can't read it, but probably among the reasons why I don't use a Mac - its quite silly that Mac can't read it in my opinion.

Ah, well the PDF and book itself was created on a Windows based PC, I do not use nor have access to a Mac. I often create work and open the file in Adobe Acrobat and resave the file, so it should be compatible with all operating systems, though there could indeed be a font issue unreadable by a Mac. Since I don't use Apple equipment that certainly is a possibility. Despite having a graphic design and illustration background, I have always used a PC (for over 20 years).

It appears that the book was created in Xara and is not adobe compatible on the mac OSX10+ or iOS9+. I can read it on a windows 10 machine and as a web page in safari; but it is not readable on either an iMac, mac-book or iPad. Not sure if you can reformat it or not, may be worth your while for other customers. I could not identify which font (s) are causing the problem, but it appears to be the whole of the normal book text. All the images and the cover text show fine.

Martin, I would try downloading it again, as many have already downloaded this without any issues, and no new file has replaced the existing one here, so I have no idea what is causing your issue - all the text is in the file...?

We're still finding some typos, but once everything is correct a print version will be made available.

I just get dots too. On startup it says that font 'calibri-bold' is missing. The web has 'calibri bold' (no hyphen) but I can't find any 'calibri-bold' (with hyphen). You may need to embed it in the pdf

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
