Insidious Experiments (Level 4 PCs)

For a level 4 party!

Haedirn Lastlight is a respected elven wizard and sage. After the death of his lover Lyonthel, the elf has been overcome with grief and has locked himself away in his study- a small manor on the cliffs of Wailing Crag. Haedirn has not been seen for over a year now, and those that knew him are beginning to worry.

Worse still, a band of ogres has been terrorizing the nearby town, slaughtering the town folk and haughtily boasting the elf wizard is dead. The PCs must put a stop to the ogres' attacks, make way to Wailing Crag to root out the rest of their gang, and lay Haedirn Lastlight's tortured remains to rest.

Insidious Experiments is part of Dungeons on Demand: Volume One.

Dungeons on Demand

Dungeons on Demand is a line instant dungeons you can drop into your campaign, each is designed for 4-5 player parties of specified levels, and each dungeon is complete with a back story, hand drawn maps, traps, puzzles, and reference information to monsters and treasure. You can customize each one to fit in your campaign however you wish, and each one can be played through in one or two gaming sessions.

EVERY DUNGEONS ON DEMAND ADVENTURE FEATURES

Maps

Player Safe Maps - Maps for each encounter area (and the dungeon as a whole) come prepared for both the players and GMs. Helpful for when you want to give the party something to visualize without revealing hidden monsters, traps, and treasure.

Quick Reference Icons

Quick Reference Icons - GM maps are fully labelled and complete with quick reference icons. These icons give you all the information a GM needs for an encounter area - whether there's monsters lurking to fight, traps the party must contend with, hidden treasure, NPCs to talk to, or a puzzle they must solve. Each icon is given a complete description in the encounter break down.

Combat Difficulty Guages

Combat Difficulty Gauges - Each encounter description provides detailed information on how monsters perform in battle. These gauges allyou to quickly determine how difficult a fight will be for an appropriately leveled party. These gauges rate an encounter from 1 star (very easy) to 5 stars (deadly). Complete with core rulebook page references and full descriptions of custom monsters!

Author Dan Coleman has been a Dungeon Master for two decades now, first picking up the dice with second edition. He can tell you what THAC0 stands for, a first level fighter's saving throw against rods, staves, and wands, and why players get excited to find "Treasure Type H."

Since then he's been through every new edition, and has written custom classes, spells, items, adventures, and system mods for each. By day he's a humble graphic designer and illustrator, but by night he's a full time role-player and game designer.

I'm looking forward to running this one soon. How many hours do you think it would take a 4-5 players to complete?

Lisa - I average about 6 hours or so for this one. It will vary depending upon how much your group likes to roleplay and interact with the NPCs, and how much you add or cut from the adventure. 6 is a good estimate, but I've heard from customers who've ran it at conventions in 4-hour time slots, and some people take as much as 8-12 hours if the group really wants to explore every nook and cranny, or if they are a little slower than normal resolving combats.

Thanks Dan. I'll report back on how my group does.

BTW what do the stars indicate in the monster description boxes?

Hey one more thing. I bought this as a bundle and it did not come with a player version of the map. Can I get one?

I was mistaken. My bundle does have player safe maps.

We played the adventure today. It took appropriate 6 hours and although they did not get to every room, they got through most of it including the boss fight.

Thanks again for making an excellent product. It was easy to run and my players loved it.

Thank you! Sorry for the late reply but I am happy to hear you found the maps and the party had fun.

Ran this campaign with my group. Bought it as a bundle. It was very well done and easy to run. I love that the experience points are already calculated and updated if the creature has extra abilities. My party had lots of fun with it. My only qualm, which is my own obsessiveness, is that everything is lettered rather than numbered which I am use to. Great product and can't wait to run the other adventures from Coleman.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
