Roleplay Life a Quarter Mile at a Time!

Did you read through Katanas & Trenchcoats, Episode 1: Welcome to Darkest Vancouver and think to yourself "Yeah, but playing Immortals is soooo '90s. I need something that speaks to the here and now."

Is that you? Hell yeah! Katanas & Trenchcoats: Car Wizards is for you. This furious follow-up calls to you. It wants to rev your engine. It craves to be nitrous for your soul. It wants to redline on Jizo Street with the Road Ronin, and it wants you in the driver's seat. Play Car Wizards facing off against each other, or riding alongside Technomages souping up their war rigs and taking shady transporter gigs from Vampires.

This completely original work of RPG art is inspired by documentaries like The Fast and the Furious, Mad Max, The Transporter, and other stories of Car Wizards the media suppresses as "fiction." We all know the truth. Let's play the truth.

What's under the Hood?

  • Rules for making and playing Car Wizards: Exceptional Mortals that go beyond mastery of speed and machine, seeming to bend the very laws of physics and probability while in their mobile domain.

  • What's an Exceptional Mortal? Good question! I answer that by introducing rules for playing not-quite-Immortal-level characters. What happens when Exceptional Mortals need to recover from Hardcore Wounds? When they need to Unbreak Traits? When they just need to feel alive, so so desperately in this Darkest Cosmos?

  • Skill variants for Car Wizards, like Knowledge (Detroit Steel Production). Because every supplement needs rules or the rules wonks won't buy them.

  • You know you want to race down the neon-and-chrome streets of Yami No Sugamo—what tourists call Darkest Tokyo. Darkest-neon Tokyo. Blacklight Tokyo.

  • When you need something moved from one side of the Darkest Cosmos to another, you call the Road Ronin.

  • Did I mention rules? YES I DID. How about race rules? Chase rules? Car fight rules? Yeah, you get all that sweetness.

  • Three new Edges! I would have put four in, but I didn't have room. Guess that means I need to do another supplement? But I dunno if there's enough bourbon.

  • AND MUCH, MUCH MORE! (Okay, really just a killer piece of art, but I'm kinda committed to this bit.)

Who is this For?

Like Katanas & Trenchcoats, Episode 1: Welcome to Darkest Vancouver, Katanas & Trenchcoats: Car Wizards is going to a cause. Read about this cause on my blog.

Why is there no print option for this title? When I pledged for a copy, it was for a print copy, and yet there's no print copy.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
