One question:

Are the stress tracks supposed to work like in Fate Core as for Box nr. 1 absorbs one shift and Box nr. 2 absorbs two shits et cetera?
Or are they meant to be like in Fate Condensed, that every box absorbs one shift?

The same goes for consequence slots, but I believe these works as like for the Core version.

And for the resource boxes, are they one point per box or are they alike with "shift absorbing" mental and physical stress boxes of Fate core?

A fillable digital character sheet would be also an awesome addition!

Thank you in advance!

Hi sir, Currently there are no plans for a 3.0 for Fate. We did 3.0 for Savage Worlds because of the new edition of Savage Worlds.

Stress in Fate is handled with shifts from tests plus the Weapon rating. The Weapon ratings are found in the specific weapon tables in the Malmart Catalog section. Generic Weapon ratings are found in a table on page 130 (in my hardcopy).

Thanks for the reply Dan . I see it on page 130. However, I noticed that there are some Weapons that still don't have a Weapon Rating like Pistol or Melee Weapons, which is annoying. I pretty much tabled this after I bought it because it seems incomplete. There are so many guns in the Malmart Catalog that don't have Weapon Ratings.

If it doesn't have a Weapon rating, it's considered Weapon:0. Even a Weapon:1 increases the power of the weapon quite a bit over standard Fate stress damage. Weapon rating rules for Fate can be found in Fate Core System page 277.

What is the format of the print on demand book? Is it regular 8.5 x 11 or more in line with the rest of the Fate books at 6 x 9?

Great product and setting. I have been using it for my transhumanism game along side the Eclipse Phase Book. The background on the solar system helps out, as well as the stuff for hacking and VR capability.

I bought the book at DunDraCon last February and the seller said that most of the fate books I bought from him, most of the creators tend to throw in the PDF if asked. Do you give a deal on that, and if so, what can sort of deal can we come to?

A very good and solid product, very loyal to the Fate feeling! One thing that seems a bit hasted though, is the character sheet. Compared to - for instance - the Savage Worlds version, it seems like no really love went into its creation. (Maybe you'll publish one free of charge?)

Are there any chance, that you will convert the other IZ books to Fate also, or are you going to do what Modiphius Games did with Aching! Cthulhu, and only publish the ground rules, not doing anything with all the extras?

Hey folks, anyone else having problems with the Character Sheet? When I try to print it I get a massive line down the left hand side and most of the sheet is unreadable, this happens with both the standalone sheet and the more basic one in the PDF. Does anyone have a link to a working copy of the PDF character sheet?

So I just received a hardcover book from DriveThruRPG for Interface Zero: Fate Edition and it has a nice cover but the binding is poor with just simple glue binding and is not stitch bound. I think this book will fall apart rather quickly with any regular use. If anyone remembers having Advanced Dungeons & Dragons books from TSR you will know what I am talking about. I wish DrivethruRPG would produce higher quality hardbound books with pages that are actually sewn to the spine of the book and I encourage RPG publishers such as Gun Metal Games to use better companies to print their books! Evil Hat and Paizo books all have great binding! The book is Fate Core Sized and the pages are dull in color as the paper does not have any gloss. Personally, I think Print on Demand is not worth it. I am very disappointed with DriveThruRPG and the way they bind their books!

With that said, I am only on page 120 but so far I am impressed with the material. Note, you must already have Fate Core with this...See more

Greg, I'm so sorry about the state of the POD product. I debated even doing it, because I know the POD option doesn't produce a superior book in Hard cover. The soft covers are relatively good, up to a certain page count. I wish they would look into better binding options. Al that said, people wanted it, so I released it this way.

This book was printed using the same printer Evil Hat does, but that was a very limited run for the kickstarter. I wanted to print enough to get it into mainstream distribution, but I didn't earn enough money in the Kickstarter.

The typography and lavish artwork is great, but I expected it from Gun Metal Games' prior Savage Worlds edition. I much prefer the giant Fate worldbooks or sourcebooks of hundreds of pages, more than the shorter 50-page world books published directly by Evil Hat, which tend to be quirky settings (though it is no less possible to run an extensive campaign in them.)

Weapons, as you say, tend to be more similar and uniform in the Fate system, but exploit whatever special rules they have for autofire, scopes and so on.
One cute rule (from an older edition of Fate) is that a character may normally carefully manage a certain rate of fire, and have time to reload, no need to track. But if they decide to go crazy with Full Auto, they can benefit from that attack but gain an aspect LOW ON AMMO which means the GM can compel running out of ammo AT A TIME OF THEIR CHOOSING. So it makes things more risky and tense. Be prepared to switch to a holdout weapon.

I'm very curious to see how you approach wealth with Fate. I'm not that big on the idea of not having money tracked as a dollar figure, especially for characters that are motivated by greed, which is the norm for Shadowrun type campaigns. So I am anxious to see your flexible wealth system and how it lets players get get rich or die trying. I will buy this when it is available in a print format.

It looks like money in IZ is based on the Resources skill from Fate Core, with the "if you really want to get crazy" option with using additional stress tracks for it. You can check it out in the core rules.

That being said - this is not the only game ruleset that doesn't much care about money as a value (Tri-Stat is another example). Even in Shadowrun your character after a few runs has boatloads of cash (though the character stays on the same level of living usually) and being motivated by greed stops working, and the numbers only add useless bookkeeping during the game (how much that costs? eh, 1285 newyen? I got 58127, so this minus that is...). If you think more into it - motivating characters with money is a very boring idea in the first place. Try playing a few games without this and find what else can you do to get them involved (character personal things work best). It takes a little bit of thinking outside the box, but you will find out, that doing stuff for money is not adding...See more

Thanks for replying to my post. I appreciate the incite about the money being tracked by the Resource Skill. It still seems weird though, asking someone how much they are going to get paid for a job and they tell them to roll their resources or it will reduce your stress track by one just does not sound right. Yes, campaigns should not just be motivated solely by money or greed but there are many adventures that I have seen in the past where there is a monetary reward and not being able to specifically say how much it is worth is kinda lame. Yes, there is pointless bookkeeping but I never thought it was that big of a deal. To me Resource skills worked best in games like DC Heroes, where you play a Super Hero and are trying to be heroic. However, Shadowrunners are anti-heroes who steal for profit and maybe just to stick it to the man or a mega corporation. Money is still an underlying factor and trying to get the people on board with the concept can be troublesome when their use to D&D and Shadowrun where...See more

Hi sir, I just wanted to pop in and say I completely understand your point. We went 'round and 'round about this issue with straight credits or a resource system, and in the end, the designers decided on a resource system. Personally, I prefer straight credit/cash payouts for missions and buying stuff with credits, because it better reflects the genre.

That said, I think Fate is less about constant tracking of money/resources (except Fate points, of course), and more about the overall story, so I went with their suggestions.

I'm happy that you went with your designers opinion - Fate is a game about tackling larger issues that come to the world around the characters. I waited so long for this version of IZ, that it would be a great pity if it didn't capture the proper feeling of a Fate game.

@Greg: please note that I'm not attacking your way of doing stuff in games, I just try to convince you to try something different at your table, maybe you'll like it. Think about this... what is the point of giving the players a new game to play, if you try as much as possible to keep them in their comfort zones? Fate is like a GNU/Linux of the RPG world, it's different on purpose and does a hell lot of stuff in a much different way than anything else. That being said, a lot of new games notice that Fate does a lot of stuff better and they take elements from it and put into their mechanics (e.g. Cypher). Fate is so different in so many aspects (pun intended ;-) ) that the method of tracking money is so small that it might go unnoticed...See more

The system we went with here is actually not the standard Fate Core 'wealth with stress' implementation. Money IS important to the genre and we want players to go into debt or be scrimping to earn the cash to pay for their gear all the time.

Resources as a skill is used when you're flashing your cash to gain preferential treatment etc. and it sets the length of your Resources stress track, but you can't just roll Resources to make a payment.

Whenever you buy something it automatically deals you stress equal to its cost--so a Superb (+5) payment inflicts five points of stress regardless of how wealthy you are.

Resource stress only clears at the end of a scenario when you get some downtime, or when you earn some money and use the payment to clear a stress box. So if you go do a dangerous job that earns you a Great (+4) payment, you can use that to clear your fourth stress box, for instance.

You can also use a payment to go out and buy an item of its value or lower,...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
