GM's Maps #29: Modular Lunar Station

GM's Maps #29: Modular Lunar Station

Multiple File Formats

Map making can be time-consuming and sometimes frustrating for GMs, especially GMs with limited time to begin with. In our new 'GM's Maps' range, we will be providing a range of pre-made maps for you to use in your games.

"As humanity reaches for the stars an increasing number of governments, corporations and private enterprises have begun to settle moons and planets. The Modular Lunar or Planetary Station or MLPS is your cost-effective solution to creating a wide range of custom-built bases for hostile environments. The MLPS is a modular system that offers a great deal of flexibility and which can be deployed in a range of otherwise hostile environments. Simply select the modules you require for the installation you wish to construct. Each module is self-contained, pressure doors in the external hull can only be opened when the relative pressure on each side is equal, and an expandable collar around each pressure door allows you to connect modules to one another, creating short corridors between modules."

"The system offers habitats, laboratories, life support, and other modules with an infinite variety of possible combinations." - From the sales brochure of the MLPS corporation.

This map pack presents a dozen different modules that can be arranged in any way you wish to create a range of stations built either on or under the surface of moons and planets for your SF games. A sample small 8 person research station using the modules is also included in the map pack but the resource is designed to let you create a range of stations quickly.

The product includes a PDF depicting the 12 modules as well as the sample small station map text describing the various features of the modules. In addition, each module is provided as a JPEG.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
