Low Tech Weapons

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Low Tech Weapons is a hardware add-on for the Cepheus Engine roleplaying game. Low Tech Weapons provides you with a huge number of new melee weapons that can be added without fuss directly into your Cepheus Engine or 2D6-based SF RPG. Most are based on the deadly weapons invented and used throughout the Ancient and Medieval periods. On Low Tech planets, TL 1-3, these weapons may have alternative names. They will provide more variety than the current spread of spear, dagger, cutlass, sword.

Catapults, ballista and trebuchet are also included!

Included are a small number of Rules Options that referees may find add a little more verisimilitude to melee combats in Cepheus Engine. The Tech Levels covered (1-3) have the following approximate Terrestrial equivalencies: TL 0 Stone AgeTL 1 Ancient/MedievalTL 2 Renaissance/Early Modern (1300 – 1700 AD), TL 3 Industrial Revolution (1700-1860).

specifically mentioned in the description was TL 3 Industrial Revolution (1700-1860). So I bought it hoping it would include lever actions revolvers and double barreled shotguns. It does not.

Sorry Benjamin, but the rules cover the types of weapons not found in Cepheus Engine or Traveller. The main rulebooks cover those kinds of firearms quite well (or versions of them).

Since a great axe does 4d6 with 2 heft, and a long hammer, halberd, or military cleaver does 4d6 with only 1 heft, and the rules say that polearms get +3 initiative, would players ever have a reason to use a great axe if polearms are available? Are these rules designed to encourage players to use polearms whenever possible?

Thanks for the comment Scott, you have spotted something there... I’ll have a look at it.

Hi Scott, looking at those numbers I certainly think the great axe should have Heft 1 to bring it into line with those polearms. Thanks again! I'll get that amended and uploaded.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
