Danger: Special - see below.

Pages: 19 (exc cover & credits).

For this 40th AF, we've decided to go with something a little different...  a Zero Level Ordeal designed for 12 - 16 "zero level" PCs - most of which are not expected to survive. Which PCs will emerge victorious against the perils of the bronze Colossus? Or will they all succumb to monsters, traps and dark magic? Only one way to find out...

Every Adventure Framework is set in a generic medieval or ancient fantasy location, with enough meat to enable the GM to improvise details (with minimal prep) and adapt to player choices. System wise, these adventures use the Low Fantasy Gaming RPG (an old school/modern mix d20 based game; free PDF), but are easily adapted to any d20 system.

Armed with a handful of Adventure Frameworks, you can sandbox like there's no tomorrow. Browse through your library of AF's, throw out a few hooks, and let the players bite where they may. Whatever direction they take, you'll be ready to handle it with aplomb. Hope you enjoy.

Check out our other Free starter adventures: AF 25 Revelry in Northgate and AF 13 Gift of the Silent God.

Note: This AF is not in the Midlands Low Magic Sandbox Setting book/PDF.

I ran the ambush using the D6 to sort everyone's characters into groups, then did a short scene for each group. After that, my players did decide to group up and take on the last remaining Ogre and very nearly had their first death. They salvaged what they could, and decided that a few of them would take the wounded to Therg's Eng, while the others would follow the Ogres. In my experience this is a total win because everyone is picking up on the clues. Even with obvious paths to follow, players sometimes have a hard time pinpointing them, but not so with this adventure. I even saw them be more creative than ever before, using characters who aren't heroes, who don't have any special powers. We left the game there to continue at another time. I'm thinking of starting all campaigns with a ZLO now.

My one complaint is that I can't find a version of this adventure updated for the full version of LFG. Is there an updated version? Also, is there a list of which AFs are updated for the pay version and which...See more

Hi Nephtan - I'm so sorry! I only saw this comment just now!

Glad the adventure played well for your group :D

No, there is no updated version for LFG Deluxe. LFG Deluxe is fully backwards compatible with all the Original LFG material (it's same system & mechanics; Deluxe just adds more options, and changes the spell names. Page number references do change). There is no separate list of adventures dividing them up into pre and post LFG Deluxe.

Hope this helps.

That's okay! I hope all is well.

Thanks for getting back to me. It was just the page number thing that was bugging me.
We never did get to complete this adventure. But LFG is lovely, my friend.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
