ENnie Award Nominee Best RulesNominated for an ENnie for Best Rules.

This book has everything you need to create characters and run super-heroic adventures within minutes. The rules are light and easy all you need are two ordinary dice, a piece of paper, and this book. Character generation is so simple, you could fit all the info you need on a 3x5 card, but we included a sheet anyway.

Do not assume that by simple, we mean incomplete, either. BASH! UE has over 50 versatile super powers, numerous skills, and even rules for collateral damage. The action is fast and furious, paced over a series of panels, pages, and issues, just like a comic book.

BASH! has undergone some changes over the years, with updates in Megapolis and BAM! and we have incorporated many of these into a single rules set. In addition to an expanded, revised version of the game, you will also find:

Updated to coincide with the new Second Printing.  New Powers, Advantages, and more

Less record-keeping, more Awesome. Energy is no longer the "default" rule for handling powers-- so you have less to keep track of during play. Hero dice, Hero points, and team-work maneuvers are now a part of the core system, so you can really bring it to the bad-guys!

Easier to read layout, better explained rules, including many examples.

Character Archetypes: Writeups of various iconic superhero & villain archetypes such as the Brick, Martial Artist, and Blaster. These templates can be easily tweaked to quickly have a custom character!

Hordes of Minions! Fleets of Vehicles! Random Encounters!

Eras & Subgenres: One of the things BASH! Fantasy & Sci-Fi editions did was extensive work on the subgenres of Fantasy and Sci-Fi, such as Steam-Punk or Space Pulp. BASH! Ultimate Edition will do the same thing for Superheroes, enabling you to run a game with the theme & tone of the Gold, Silver, Bronze, or Iron Ages. There are also sections on Super Teens, Science Fiction, Fantasy, as well as Cosmic Superheroes.

About the Hardcover Book:
FYI there are some slight differences from the 2nd Printing:

1. The interior is now available in premium heavyweight color paper. The paper in the Premium option is smoother, but not glossy.
2. The Attack Weak Point power has been updated. An update to the PDF has been made accordingly, so you may re-download if you have an older printing PDF.
3. The Danger Sense power has been changed from 2pts to 3pts.

I like this book but I thinks there is missing powers who appears frequently in comics like space flight, regeneration from death, time travel, dimensional travel.

And there is no rules to create powers so I don't know how much power points would cost these powers. There will be a supplement book for powers ?

Creator Chris Rutkowsky has been releasing a series called Awesome Powers. I know that volume 3 includes teleportation, and volume 9 has time powers. Otherwise, creating powers is more a matter of finding the effect you're looking for and adding effects, enhancements, or limitations and narrative flavoring.

For example, if you look at the hero and villain archetypes in the core book, the Cosmic Herald has the power of flight with enhancement of space as well as immunity to radiation, cold, and suffocation.

Yann, thanks for your feedback. I think you'll find there is a lot more that can be done even with the basic rulebook than you might have realized at first glance. For example, Regeneration from death can be done using the Immortality Advantage-- this would just be a matter of how you choose to "flavor" that particular ability. Another person with Immortality could simply have a magic that brings him back to life every 30 days after death or another might be a god or a vampire or some other being that is simply immortal. There is a lot you can do with how you interpret certain Powers and Advantages. I'd also advise checking out the chapters on Supernatural and Cosmic games because these contain some of their own Powers and Advantages. That's where the Space Enhancement for Flight is, for instance.

In fact, about 85% of the material in the Awesome Powers supplements (we are working on #12 as of this writing) are built using the Powers and Enhancements from the core book. For instance, a...See more

I'm looking for a rules-light superhero game, and I'd come across ICONS. I really like the look of it, but I was curious to know how BASH! compares. (I see that it's about 100 pages shorter than ICONS' book, but in looking at the preview that mainly seems to be because BASH! packs a lot more text into its pages.) Speed is what I value over anything else. I want to be able to get the rules (and explain those rules to others) quickly, create characters in less than an hour, and have combat rounds that can be resolved fast enough that an entire session doesn't balloon into six to eight hours. (Honestly, I'd really like to be able to complete an entire adventure in three to four.) Which of the two will best accomplish these goals? (Or is there yet another that would do it even better than BASH! or ICONS?)

I see you purchased BASH 18 months (or so) ago. Can you answer your questions now? If so, what are your answers?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, no. While I have both BASH! and Icons, I haven't really had a chance to play or run either. For some reason, trying to get my friend group interested in a supers game is like pulling teeth despite the fact that they're all into superhero comics.

That said, just reading the rules, I prefer the way BASH! runs in theory. I have difficulty wrapping my head around the qualities in Icons.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
