Urban Adversaries

ADD TO WISHLIST >

24 new 4e monsters for the world's most popular role-playing game, with an urban twist!  As a GM do you wish to darken the 'points of light'?  If you believe towns and cities should be just as exciting and frightening as the wilderness this monster collection is for you!

Each creature is illustrated (with fresh, new illustrations not stock art) in printer-friendly black-and-white and each comes with at least one encounter suggestion (34 encounters in all, fully detailed for seamless insertion into your campaign world).

The monsters described range from level 1 minion to level 15 solo and include all of the following: a helpful imp, a moth that clears the battlefield of the dying, an alchemically-created ooze, a cat that won't stay dead, a huge fish that gobbles everything in its path.  Not enough?  How about a fire-starting insect, an elemental that haunts unlucky blacksmiths, a disgusting and acidic worm?  Maybe you would like a bevy of fat, psychic-powered rats?  Or, the book also inlcudes: a ghostly hound, a spider that eats light, a muddy earth elemental, a hangman that continues to work the gallows long after his death.  More?  Alright, Urban Adversaries also includes:  a pair of toads (one good, one evil), a swarm of diseased bats, a beautiful moat guardian, a shadow-loving serpent, a vine that lures the unwary to their death, plus a cadre of undead (see the Tethered Soul and Tomegeist full-size preview) and the tower owl

Many creatures feature our own "Shining Ideas" and "Dark Thoughts" designations, these represent ways to make the creature more likely to be an ally (Shining Ideas) or to add even more evil and foulness to an already deadly creature (Dark Thoughts).

Every single creature comes with at least one mini-scenario with encounter level and XP total.  And every creature comes with the tactics, lore, and backstory you've come to expect!  Give this product a look and add some menacing and intriguing foes to your towns and cities!

Neuroglyph Games says, "Urban Adversaries has some good monster concepts in it, with some solid writing, and some inventive lore and adventure hooks which make most of these monsters readily usable in almost any campaign's city or town."

This is the kind of supplement that restores my faith in third party products. From top to bottom (technical aspects, writing, and art) this product is top shelf. The monsters are AS advertised - different enough to raise eyebrows but fitting for an ur [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
