Easy to build: This paper model kit is easy to assemble, requiring just cardstock paper sheets to print on (110 lb. or 199gsm recommended), scissors, hobby knife, paper glue, aluminum ruler and cutting mat. It may look complicated, but every part of the Inventor's House is simple to assemble on its own, and putting it together is just a matter of building up the simple shapes into the complete structure you see here. Because this is such a large model, assembly time will be several hours.

15mm to 30mm scale: This model is designed at the popular 28mm-30mm gaming scale, and can be shrunk down to 15mm, 20mm or 25mm scales by simply adjusting the print size percentage on your printer. Tips and advice for altering the scale are included with this kit.

Multi-layered PDFs: The Inventor's House features multiple texture layers, putting you in control over the final look of your model before you print. If you like, you can print several versions of this model and scatter them around your gaming table. If you don't like the rooftop platform, that's okay -- it's just an option. You can leave it off entirely and create a much more normal looking building. Many looks are possible with this one kit.

You get all of these texture options:

  • Stone walls (2 colors) and brick walls (2 colors) on the lower level
  • Wood walls (2 colors) or half-timbered walls on the upper levels
  • Several window and door positions
  • 3 roof styles (slate tiles, clay tiles or wooden shingles)
  • Several chimney and roof dormer positions
  • Optional annex
  • Optional rooftop platform for weather experiments
  • And more!

Ready to print: For your printing convenience, this model includes a prepared version that's easy to print right away.

Software requirements: You'll need Adobe Reader to get full use of these layered PDFs.

Dimensions: When all of the optional components are used (annex, rooftop experiments platform), this model's footprint is 4" x 9.25", and it stands 11.5" high.

I loved building this and the end results. The more odd angles, levels, and interesting things in the design, the more I want to make it. More builds like this and the Willow Brook Inn would be great! I did appreciate the extra advice and support ideas in the instructions as well.

Check both part 1 and part 2, the instructions should be in there. In any case if you printed all the pages, then you have all the pieces for the alternate version.

I got this for inspiration for a scratch build, but a very nice card house regardless, will probably add a set of barn doors to it. very steampunk style that will look good with the crane house nearby

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
