Wonderful product to help me generate names and to check wether they are good luck or bad luck names. Even better than the printed copy as it does the work for me.

Bits of the Wilderness: Into the Swamp
by Craig B. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 01/12/2009 19:40:46

I found this product to be extremely useful. It doesn't really matter what genre you play, a swamp is a swamp :) It is a simple matter to swap out a fantasy element to add a sci-fi or science-fantasy element.

The details on types of swamps, gasses and mud were enlightening and very useful.

Thanks!

Craig J. Brain WardCo.

Even if you, like me, weren't part of the GenCon 2008 seminar where this material was presented, you can get some good GMing tips from this workbook. I was able to put the principles in this book to immediate use in the very next session I GMed. You can't lose with this free product!

Bits of the Wilderness: Into the Mountains
by Nathan C. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 10/07/2008 14:12:57

Despite four different campaigns, three completely different worlds, two systems and a dozen different players, there is one set of books that I find myself peering through every week of game preparation, the Bits of series by Tabletop Adventures.

Each book is filled with descriptive passages for dungeon masters to liven up their adventures. Good DMs, especially Iron DMs, know how important it is to create an immersive world with vividly described scenes. Each book in the series is focused on a particular setting. The 10th book in the series, Bits of the Wilderness, Into the Mountains, contains 160 passages to bring your adventure to life.

There are 100 bits, which are small descriptions of various scenes and imagery that PCs may encounter in a mountain setting, whether it’s climbing the mountain or hiking through them. I must have read 500 to 600 of these passages and the writing still feels fresh. There are also 60 Shards, which are longer passages of up to two or three paragraphs. These are divided into categories such as weather or season to help navigate through the book. Not resting on previous success, a newer feature, kits, are also included. These are similar to the Bricks from the Bits of Darkness pieces. These elaborate pieces of imagery detail mountain range settings from various altitudes.

The 65 page PDF is very well organized with bookmarks and sub-bookmarks. At the end of the book, there is a section where the bits are laid out on cards and can be printed out for easy reference in game.

For the Dungeon Master Some of the best pieces of writing I have read in this series has been the writing and Into the Mountain is no exception. My favorite shards are those that incorporate rolls for the players to make into the scene, making them more lifelike.

The Iron Word With the success of other books such as the Mother of All Tables, It is good to see Tabletop Adventures continue this series. Bits of Wilderness: Into the Mountain contains mounds of creativity and freshness and, as the others in the series, will find itself as one of the most useful resources in your game preparation collection.

Deck O' Names - Modern Generator
by Gary L. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 09/27/2008 07:37:10

If you want a nice selection of modern names quick...just give it a click!

Separate tables for males and females could have been combined into one, but it is easy to use as separate. I like that you can select that you want a 100 (up to 1,000) different names and then print them out.

If you are like me then somewhere during an adventure one of the players is going to go in an unexpected direction. And then you need a new name! No more Bob Joneses. I can just grab a name from my list. There is 100 on a list in 3 columns. Or you can print in two or one columns if you want space to make notes. If you want to save your list, you can do so from there.

Bits of Darkness: Caverns
by Terry D. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 07/23/2008 15:36:09

As a DM the problem I come up with is I don't have varied enough descriptions of areas and with this product our caves and tunnels are no longer plain but have a pop that makes the players search extra because the area had a wonderful description.

Bits of Darkness: Caverns
by Jack S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 06/13/2008 14:24:50

"Bits of Darkness: Caverns" is a handy product that I will be making good use of in my home campaign. The bulk of the pages is devoted to a list of twenty "Cavern Shards" and 100 "Cavern Bits," each one a description of a room you might drop in a dungeon you are designing. These descriptions will be extremely handy for those rooms in which you want to put something special, but you just can't come up with a good enough idea.

The Little People
by Ryan W. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/17/2008 02:58:18

This is actually a good resource for being so cheap. It ccovers the lore of real world fairy myths anf converts them for the OGL rules. If you already know all the real world fairy lore there is, I wouldn't bother with this book, but if you want to flesh out the fey in your game it's pretty slammin.

Bits of the Boulevard
by JD S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/03/2008 12:33:59

This product consists of 65 pages; the cover is truly ghastly amateur art that Judges’ Guild would have considered unworthy, but that’s a moot point in a pdf. Four pages are spent with the usual bumpf, and then there are 100 ‘Bits of the Boulevard’ each a visual image of a street scene written in a rather florid style; if I used this product, I would have to paraphrase the description, as it does not flow naturally. Then you get 80 ‘shards of the street’, which are scenes tied to specific areas of the city. Then are 22 ‘Walls and Gates’, which have to do with observations made in those areas. The writing is not bad, but rather far too florid, the sort of over-emphasized melodrama one associates with high school students. Five pages of very basic and simplistic discussion on why cities exist, followed by an index, and then the first hundred descriptions repeated a second time in an ‘index card’ format.

This product might be useful to a beginning GM with limited or no experience, or a GM wanting to add color to a one-off or a short campaign without any appreciable setting, but otherwise it is of limited appeal, and very over-priced.

Against the Darkness
by Neil B. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 03/29/2008 04:10:55

Having played many contemporary role playing systems based upon the horror and/or supernatural genre, I found ATD to be fresh and lightweight with the rules. Character generation is simple and we have had a campaign going for a year. If you have tried the White Wolf products, Beyond the Supernatural and many others....give this a go

Against the Darkness
by Michael D. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 02/07/2008 09:23:45

A complete product in which characters are Justiciars, fighting against the supernatural enemies of the church (Catholic and/or Episcopalian, given the female priest on the cover). A simple system allows for combat, skills, and miracles in the name of the Lord. The skills allow for some nifty cinematic tricks, as do the miracles.

The presentation is good, with thematic Bible verses and prayers serving as flavor text throughout. The only strange thing I saw was that one round of combat damage does the same regardless of the weapon used. Makes for quick fights, but folks who like differentiation of weapons will be scratching their heads.

The game is simple enough to begin play nearly immediately, yet offers enough horizons for a longer campaign. Rules and advice for running horror games are included, as well as some characters and foes. Expect as much competent action as you do horror.

Destinations: Repair Station 7-Osiris
by Tim L. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 01/22/2008 17:49:46

This product compares very favorably to S. John Ross' "Points in Space" PDF -- but while his has many descriptions of people and locations for various points in space, this focuses on one place and divides it into active and derelict. The single focus allows more description as good as "Points in Space".
