I Love the Corps: Marine Training Manual

Character Creation and Game Rules for I LOVE THE CORPS, the role-playing game of Military Action, Science-Fiction and Horror.

Earth is a distant memory.

The remains of humanity are disparate and feuding.

The Colonial Dominion claims that all is well.

The average citizen thinks that “Rebels” are all there is to worry about.

They don't know a thing.

And neither does your average grunt of the United Colonial Marine Corps. But they will learn soon enough.

Shapeshifters could be masquerading as your Sarge.

Psychotic Artificial Intelligences may be trying to 'improve' the galaxy by removing humanity.

There are alien parasites that bite into your skin, crawl inside you and control your every move.

That's just the beginning, marine!

If you ain't ready for that, you better find another Marine Corps!

This 256 page book contains:

  • Fiction and information giving the style and setting of the game world.

  • All the statistics you need to make a character, a marine.

  • Create anything from a telepathic sniper, GeneModded demolitions expert or heavily augmented Cyborg warrior, using a point-building, classless system.

  • The rules for the playing the "I Love the Corps" role-playing game; a 1D6-based game of cinematic scene and story building.

If you head to the I Love the Corps website (I'm not allowed to place hyperlinks in this description, but if you search for 'I Love the Corps RPG' you'll find it) you can get a Rules Overview.

(Games Masters will need to acquire I LOVE THE CORPS: Classified Materials.)

I'm doing my first read-through of this as I recently came across it by mere chance.
I have been trying to write an action-narrative game with Military set dressing but with this, it feels like I don't have to.
Despite what looks like a fairly amateur presentation the foundation for the game seems stellar.
I will likely put up a more complete review when we have a handful of sessions under our belt, but I like what I'm seeing.
Hard to believe this was under my nose for so long. Great work.

Hey Michael! Sorry for the very late response; I don't get notifications about such things to alert my attention. There is just one updated PDF available now, but there have been a brief period before I took the old one down. (It has been madness getting books ready, I can't precisely remember, again I do apologise.) The latest file on there, if you don't have it already, just has a few errata updates I spotted whilst I was getting the book files sorted. There should have been a message sent about it when it was uploaded, but I shall repeat the corrections here.

Errata (for both print copy and updated PDF of Marine Training Manual)

The effect status for Small Blade has been corrected to Lethal.
Battle Rifle was listed as Armour Piercing, which is incorrect, and Mortar and Railgun were listed as not Armour Piercing, so these have been corrected accordingly.
Minigun area corrected to Arc, Line.
There was a typo in the information about PLANet which has been corrected....See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
