Absolutely of the same caliber and quality as the original core book: the production values and the depth of creativity are the same. The book fits perfectly into the atmosphere established by the core book and expands very naturally from a solar system inhabited by a refugee human race, highly modified by technology and its experiences, to the very highly risky exploration of the universe beyond using a science fiction concept ('stargates') that, while one might say is a tad threadbare, sees fresh new life in the hands of masters.

'Gatecrashing' allows the GM to create explosive new stories for her or his players, and the artwork available for use is of the best quality. Posthuman Studios' open license and 'hack packs' truly make the product available to the player to make her or his own.

Where do you go exploring in a solar system that is filled with people?

Gatecrashing, The second expansion book for the Eclipse Phase RPG, answers that question rather well. With the introduction of detailed information on the Pandora Gates, which were mentioned in the core book, players can now explore planets in other solar systems by traveling through these gates.

While the weird and wonderful locations you can reach through the Pandora Gates are the focus of the book, just as interesting is the politics and intrigue surrounding the possession of and access to the Gates. The mysterious origins of the Pandora Gates and the potential profit to be had by those possessing them are ripe for a backstabbing and betrayal filled campaign.

The actual extrasolar missions themselves as describes are filled with hazards form these strange new planets, and this things that can be encountered there. and the potential for being stranded in these strange places breeds paranoia in bucket fulls.

If there is anything to not like about this book, it is perhaps that too much is borrowed from the Stargate franchise. At some points the descriptions of the Gates and their operating procedures could be a carbon copy of a Stargate description. Perhaps a little more effort could have been put into distancing it from such a popular series with such a similar premise. That said, when taken in context with the Eclipse Phase setting as a whole, it works very well.

Overall, an excellent product that any sci-fi RPG fan should pick up.

As for any Eclipse Phase product, I enjoyed reading through the material itself. It is a fun and interesting addition to an already fascinating setting, however I must complain on the fact that the GM session is too poor. It doesn't give much more fluff or detail than the normal description of the planets, while I would have wished that there was an official "truth" for at least some of those places.

"Gatecrashing" is an add-on to ground breaking Eclipse Phase and it lives up the usual high standard for the rest of the line. It expands the already rich setting beyond solar system and into bizarre alien worlds accessible through the mysterious Pandora Gates.

The main section has in-depth description of two score gate destinations chosen according to their relevance to Firewall for their X-risk potential. Most lead to planets that were visited by ET post-singularity civilisations that have long since gone extinct. Unlike the majority of sci-fi, in Eclipse Phase the alien planets are truly alien with only a handful earth-like planets habitable to unmodified human life. Every destination has a mystery to solve and a few story seeds for the GM.

The rest of the book deals with gatecrashing operations and possible ways for the PC's to get involved as well as a smattering of new equipment and morphs. There is a guide for creating believable custom planets that will come in handy for any GM that wishes to expand the EP universe.

In my humble opinion "Gatecrashing" is the best product so far in already high quality EP line and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in sci-fi. Solid A from me.
