Selected Option:

The city of Archon.

The most cosmopolitan, technologically advanced metropolis the world has ever seen,

where the nations of the world have at last come together to lay aside their differences.

Will it be our last hope for a peaceful future or the chilling harbinger of a totalitarian dystopia?

It falls to the members of the Division of Public Safety to protect Archon and its inhabitants from threats from both without and within.

But which is the greater threat?

In a future of ambiguous ethnicity and rampant cyberization, what use is there for obsolete national borders and political beliefs?

The boundaries separating man and machine are not only blurred, but utterly erased.

The conflict in this new-fledged world is not between nations or between law and order but between millennia-old traditions and an inevitable shift in consciousness, with the very meaning of 'humanity' and even 'identity' placed in the crosshairs.

Will Archon be the beacon of a shining future, or will its enemies bring it crashing to the ground.

NeuroSpasta is a cyberpunk/transhumanist setting using 5th Edition rules, compatible with both Ultramodern5 and Amethyst.  In this book, you’ll find…

--Rules for hacking computers and even people.
--The new freediver class.
--Four new races based on the blend of flesh and technology.
--Fifteen new backgrounds.
--Rules for controlling and customizing robots.
--Dozens of cybernetics from basic implants to total body replacements.
--Computer programs to help yourself or cripple your enemies.
--New adversaries including robots, cyborgs, and supercomputers.
--An introductory adventure full of intrigue and explosions.

NOTE:  Requires either Ultramodern5 or Amethyst: Quintessence (Ultramodern5 recommended).

Sorry to keep posting, but I just wanted to say that I GM'ed for the first time this weekend with this system. I actually convinced my parents to try Tabletop RPG gaming for the first time. They absolutely loved it and I have never had so much fun playing a tabletop RPG. Thanks for making this system. It's super fun to be able to create a world inside Archon. Nice work.

Quick question, I don't suppose you have any maps of the world I can use? I mean with the location of Archon and maybe national borders around the world? I can/will create my own map if need be, but I wondered if anyone had already done this (including the publisher??).

Thanks!

Additionally, is there a map of Archon somewhere? Again, I can create these, but don't want to if there's already some that exist.

I have several questions for clarification as I'm preparing a campaign using NueroSpasta for my group of players:
1) Freediver class doesn't list a weapons proficiency (not even a listing that says none) is this an omission instead of "Weapon: None" under proficiencies, or is it an error and Freedivers are supposed to get something (all simple weapons and one-handed small arms is granted to the Face, Medic, and Techie so it might have been intended for Freediver as well.)
2) Do repeated instructions (talents/hotkeys/other programs) within a single malware take up multiple program slots? Example: a PC wants to make a version of the Trueborn Savant NPC's Inferno Worm which has feedback surge twice as its instructions. Does this program take up 2 slots: 1 for worm and 1 for Feedback surge, or does it take up 3 slots due to having Feedback Surge twice? (As someone who works with programming languages I feel it should be the former since it is easy to reuse sections of code, but that would affect...See more

1: The Freediver has none.
2: It's the latter (so, yes, game balance)
3: Yeah, that's weird.
4: I mean...technically yeah.
5: yup. That will be in the errata.
6: Check
7: Good point. It would be a long rest.
8: No. Exposed batteries are shorted out. Pincher weapons won't affect insulated batteries. We may make certain machines vulnerable to lightning, but that would be in an upcoming errata.
9: As an opponent, a GM ignores ammo rules. As something the player's control, I'd give it 20.
10: We'll add those in with the updated file, but they would be expensive as controlling some of them could be potentially game breaking.

I suspected the Freediver had no weapon proficiencies innately but wasn't sure with how the line wasn't present and it could have been an erroneous omission. At least Freedivers can pick up weapon proficiencies from a few backgrounds and Archetypes (although they have to wait for level 3 for the archetype proficiencies) Or they simply could multiclass.
I agree that 4 is kind of weird when you think about it, but it has happened already in reality which is why I brought it up. Some people call such 'benign or helpful' malware as vigilante code with Linux.Wifatch an example of such 'malware'. Linux.Wifatch only serves to get harmful malware off types of unpatched routers by installing security patches and rebooting the equipment but since it is installed without the user's consent or permission it is still classified as malware.
I wasn't concerned about ammo for GM controlled entities, it's the PC controlled ones I am concerned about. (And I fully suspect some of those from #10 will be expensive given...See more

Just noticed something else that needs errata that I haven't seen mentioned elsewhere in the Limb Enhancement table. It lists the TechNoX ES-Class 3 Sensory Amp twice (once at a price of 250 and again at a price of 5,000, I suspect the 250 is wrong given the price of the Class-2) The ES-Class 2 Sensory Amp is listed at 9,000 (which I assume is correct) but the ES-Class 1 Sensory Amp isn't on the list at all but I'd expect it to be around 13,000 or so.
Also not sure why it says that the Sensory Amp description lists that it helps you with tasks requiring manual dexterity when it boosts Wisdom (Perception), Passive Perception, and Initiative.

So I'm reading the preview, and I come across this:

"Reverse Engineer. You can use the Intelligence (Engineering) skill to convert technology into widgets to be used in the creation of other technology."

(headdesk) That is not what reverse engineering means. Reverse engineering is, I give you a microwave and you take it apart, figure out how it works, and use that knowledge to build your own microwave. Not, I give you a microwave and you take it apart and use the pieces to build a telephone.

What limits the number of firewalls someone can install? Cost? SEED neural implant control points? DM Whim? :)

GOOD question. The limit PC/NPC or rather non-server firewalls was set to 1, but in several early builds of the game, there was listed an implant that was called "Eden Cyberauxilum", which cost 6,000 (if memory serves), and allowed the adding of another firewall.
8,000 (sold separately). Another build limited the number of additional firewalls to your Seed bonus (with many being zero). We figured it would be abused too easily, so it was removed. I had planned on the former being added in a supplement, so that is the closest thing to a canon answer I can give you. In the book, as is, everyone is limited to 1.

Ultramodern5 Backgrounds only expanded the fluff of character development, not the 5E mechanics regarding Backgrounds. NeuroSpasta backgrounds are built for UM5 but can still be used with traditional 5E.

what ability scores would you use for a prosthetic body controlled via sensory transfer. For example if a robotic virtuant upgraded to use the KBT calgars physical ability scores were to use sensory transfer would the prosthetic body use the virtuants 28 strength or would it have its own strength score?

When controlling a robot body, you always use the robots physical ability score, while you using your mental ability scores, regardless of which one is higher.

It would have its own physical stats. The rule is that you cannot control your body and another at the same time. With a robot, it has its own mental stats--it's only doing what you are telling it. If you want to telepresence yourself into another body, you always use that body's physical stats. You can own a dozen different prosthetic bodies but only the one you generated your character with will have the physical stats you rolls. You cannot duplicate your mental stats because are only one person, and the setting as of yet doesn't endorse personality copying.

That's not what the full body prosthetics section says. It says that they use your original ability scores, so i guess that would be the answer to my original question, But what about the ASI's from leveling up? Its seems really harsh to have to revert to level 1-3 ability scores just to upgrade your FBP or get a new one when/if your original is destroyed.

Oh, I SEE what you are referring to. I thought you were talking about robots in the Opponent section. OKAY, full rewind. It's a bit of a meta system regarding Prosthetic upgrading. But technically, you would have a full new list of physical abilities, but in testing, that was unbalancing. However, it does make it confusing if someone wants to own multiple bodies. Technically, you should be able to own multiple different bodies with huge variations in ability listings, but we felt that gave a huge advantage to those playing prosthetics. We placed the emphasis on controlling robots rather than placing remotes in prosthetic replacements. SOOOO, to answer your question, any modification to your physical stats in a prosthetic replacement (Like, "Your Dexterity score increases by 2 and your Charisma score increases by 1, as do your maximums for those scores.") are a replacement to the Ability Score Increase you receive for being a prosthetic "Race".

Example: Let's says your...See more

I think the problem may be coming from the Robot Upgrade racial trait of the robotic virtuant race. maybe if i explain what I'm hoping to do it will help.
Im plannng to make a robotic virtuant. At some point i hope to use the Robotic Upgrades feature to gain the size and ability scores of a strongpoint defense platform and the use sensory transfer with a empty prosthetic body to go places my main body is too big for. the problem I'm having is that since its not a class based ASI it would be body specific but it isn't an addition to my base stats like the thunderpex are, instead changing my stats to a specific value which are higher than the maximum and preventing ASI's from increasing them.
In this situation would i keep track of my original stats before the upgrade and apply ASI's to them, even though it wouldn't affect my true bodys stats, for use with the prosthetic body? or would i use the new stats even though it doesn't make logical sense for the prosthetic to be that strong?

another side note. would the prosthetic body need its own firewall or would there be no point since i would already have one? If it does need one is there any way to turn the firewall off so i can use sensory transfer then turn the firewall back on once I'm in it? or perhaps a way to establish a more permanent link that would allow me to telepresence into it with a firewall active?
Thanks for taking the time to help me with these questions by the way I really appreciate it.

Well, that's awesome. I think you are on the right path. When you create your character, you have a robotic body with physical stats based on traditional rules. Then later, all your physical stats change to that of the Platform. To remote a small humanoid body, yes, I would then go back to your original created physical stats and then modify that as needed with new body parts. Also if I remember correctly, you should have a firewall in both locations if you want complete protection. Without a firewall in a remote system, someone can hijack it and sever your link. Also, you can have a firewall and still remote control a prosthetic body or a robot.

sensory transfer states that "the subject body or environment must not be currently firewalled" which is why i asked about turning the firewall on and off.
Also I just realized that the epic level homebrew rules my group is using would allow my maximum strength to reach 26, if that happened and my natural strength surpassed the 24 of the platform would it overwrite that score similar to if i were wearing gauntlets of ogre power? or would i be stuck at 24 str on my main body?

I deleted my previous comment...I thought I was still on the Ultramodern5 page. :) :)

On page 58, it states NS is a TL4 setting with elements at TL5, though some regions of Earth are ar TL1 or TL2. This means everything up to TL5 in Ultramodern5 is allowed. So if a gear is listed in UM as a tech level, you go with that. Robots and everything else not in UM5 would be TL4.

Sorry for the confusion.

That's an issue with OneBookShelf. It happens on occasion with everyone. I would suggest contacting technical support as it is not an issue DEM can fix on our end. You can also try repairing your Adobe install. I heard that works as well sometimes. It sucks because people message us about it, and we're like, we have literally no say in how OneBookShelf converts their PDFs. It passes certification on our end and we have people download them to test and they are all good...then one person can't. And when I approach OBS, they tell me to tell the customer to contact them.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
