EMERALD GIANT MAPPER 2

A random mapping engine for role-playing adventures.

EGM 2 randomizes very cool maps using dozens of customizable settings. These settings allow you to generate an infinite (go ahead, count them) supply of dungeon levels, mazes and geomorphs (yes, geomorphs!) to print for your games.

You set the map density, squares per inch, and room/corridor ratio, entropy levels, etc., and the program generates a unique map using those commands. You control the percentages of room and corridor shapes, types of exits, and options such as tunnels, teleporters and trapdoors. By combining the various settings, you can create mazes, dungeons and the classic look of a map designed by an insane wizard. You also get to control the map's colors!

With an infinite variety of maps at your disposal, you can concentrate on the more cerebral aspects of adventure creation--e.g. thinking up inescapable death traps for the characters.

To get an idea of what the program can do just with simple geomorphs (map tiles that you can print, fit together and re-use), check out the EGM 2 Geomorph Packs at this website -- these products contain example maps that you can view in the Full or Quick Preview.

Just a little warning/heads-up to other purchasers; there is no way to save the actual map outside of the program. You have to print it, no saving as a image file or what for later touching up/enhancing in image editor, etc... Only way to do that is to print it out, scan it back in as an image & then do your post-work. Was a bit miffed about this. My fault though for not asking about it before I purchased it so no one's fault but my own. Very good program, smooth running, & very fast generation... unfortunately for me I like to embellish my map-images for using on my laptop when DM'ing...

Oh BTW the file you download from DriveThruRPG is not an .EXE file per se. it is a MSI insaller package.

I have taken to using a pdf printer (P D Fill, which is not in any way associated with Emerald Giant) to create electronic copies of my maps. Other software is available, some of it free.

I have a few questions. When the program generates a map, can the map be saved so it can bring up the same map again? Also, can you edit a map within the program? For example, if I don't like where a wall is located, can I manually move it to another location, or even delete it, or add walls/doors/etc. that the program didn't auto-generate? Do you have any brief videos showing the features and limitations of the program? Thanks!

Each map is saved as it is created, however you cannot edit the map within the program. It is a map generator with many customizable parameters, but it is not a map editor per se. Future enhancements may include this, but for now any editing will have to be done after-the-fact by another means.

A quick question on the side (and sorry for any "engrish" in advance: I am not a native Speaker). Would I have the "Publisher rights" to a map I created with this software?
Why I do ask: I would consider using maps like those in products (free private products as well perhaps later in products I would intend to sell). These products would (of course) not be a simple list o just the blank maps but (i.e.) complete dungeons and such.

Yes, you print, you own it. We have a few customers who use the prior version of the program for their published products. If you want to give credit to the program, fantastic, but it's not required. Also, if you want to produce your maps as .pdf or bitmap files rather than printed pages, I recommend PDFill or a similar tool. Thanks! - Emerald Giant Games

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
