Elusive Elixir is the second in a series of high fantasy choose your path novels, penned by Whitney Award-nominated Derick William Dalton. 

Inspired by works such as Fighting Fantasy and Lone Wolf, reader choices and hero abilities allow a range of storylines and endings, one of which leads to the sequel, Heiress of the Tundra.

Miri Oliva sought adventure in the wilds to escape a culture that made her feel like a possession. 

After success with the Bandit Lord, a vengeful attack leaves Miri and her friends vulnerable. A stranger grants them much-needed aid, but at great cost. Guiding the stranger in a journey to the feared Dimshroud Spire may sunder her from her friends and perhaps her life.

The game mechanics are based on Lone Wilderlands, the solo sandbox RPG in a cardbox. Also by Derick William Dalton, characters from Elusive Elixir can be used in Lone Wilderlands adventures and vice versa. Lone Wilderlands RPG is also available from DriveThruRPG.

Here are excerpts from Elusive Elixir: 

Dimness spread across the streets. Lanterns outside of doors were lit as Miri, Maureen, and Ruan followed Azura Miruvore along Wood Lane. Ahead they heard the boisterous laughs of those who should be leaving the tavern for home but likely would not for some hours. With no one else strolling the streets, the three women and dog were conspicuous and soon noticed.

A group of inn patrons were on the street in front of the inn, enjoying the cool evening. One of the larger and louder of the group saw them, said something less loud to his companions, and approached in nearly a straight line.

He looked them over, eyes pausing on armor and weapons. “It’s a little late for battle, ladies,” he said.

“You’re a little short for giving cheek, lad,” Maureen replied. 

Five of the man’s companions overheard and approached, eyes looking for entertainment. Miri decided to intervene.

Choose Miri’s response.

“Don’t mind her. She’s cranky from being poisoned today,” Miri said and walked away. Go to section 89.

“Come with us! We’ll conquer the world!” Miri cheered, raising her fist in the air.

“Go back inside. You’re spoiling a nice night in a nice town,” Miri said, making shooing motions with her hands.
