Sunken Isle

A powerful wizard once made his home in a lavish manor on this private islet. Like many in his avocation, he sought to expand his knowledge, pushing the boundaries of magical understanding. Over time, his research and experimentation took him down forbidden paths, paths that began to tap into the power of the divine. When he crossed that line, the god of earth took notice and became enraged.

The god vented his anger in the form of earthquakes, as well as the eruption of a volcano named the Demon’s Orb, which could be seen from the wizard’s islet.

Seas raged around the small island, in reaction to the continuing quakes and eruption. The beleaguered wizard took what precautions he could, erecting a magical barrier to prevent water from entering his home. As he finished the defensive enchantments, breathing a sigh of relief that his home was protected, the ocean floor shifted and his whole island plunged downward almost two hundred feet – swallowed entirely by the surrounding ocean.

It’s been many decades, possibly centuries, since those events. No one has heard any more of the wizard since then. Whispering between adventurers in dim taverns hint of great treasures for the lucky band who finds the sunken isle – but then, you know how adventurers like to exaggerate…

This product includes the following maps (all 40x40):

  • Sunken Isle Manor ground floor* (VTT with and without grid, +res with and without grid)
  • Sunken Isle Manor second floor (VTT with and without grid, +res with and without grid)
  • Sunken Isle Manor third floor (VTT with and without grid, +res with and without grid)
  • Sunken Isle Manor fourth floor (VTT with and without grid, +res with and without grid)
  • Sunken Isle Manor roof (VTT with and without grid, +res with and without grid)

In addition, I’ve included a map of the seas around the Sunken Isle (not 40x40), showing the nearby island and Demon Orb Peaks, where the volcano remains active (the map has been provided in two resolutions, each with and without hex grid).

*Note: The ground floor map for the manor includes stairs which lead down. Those have been included in case you wish to add a basement or some other point of interest below the structure. If you choose not to include a subterranean level (or more), you can easily explain that wherever the stairs may once have led, they’re completely collapsed at this point.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
