Dragonfall
by Danny Y. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/09/2009 12:53:15

The guys at Sundrah have done it again. Another supplement that went far above what I expected. The contours here are some of the best yet and another spell college. Dragons spelled out in full detail with sub races and abilities some of which you see in almost all games and some that I have never seen in any other system.

Dark Fantasy Complete Start-up [BUNDLE]
by Danny Y. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/09/2009 12:46:43

this was the way I picked up most of the books here. it is a great start for someone wanting to play or run this system. much like the original players and DMG kits this is all you need to play in the dark fantasy of Sundrah realm. The value of this pack is as good or better than anything I have seen in a while.

Just what you would expect from a started module. a fully developed hamlet with interesting people and plot hooks that you will want to complete. There are also a couple more contours to add flair to your character and monsters that are a good fight. all in all a lot of fun to play threw.

The Dark Fantasy of Sundrah - Core Rulebook
by Danny Y. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/07/2009 22:38:56

Add an interesting back story to a host of playable races and contours to allow you to customize characters to your hearts content and you have Dark Fantasy of Sundrah. If your looking for a Role playing system that will allow someone who has never role played to create a character in less than half an hour look no farther.

Dragonfall
by Lomax L. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/07/2009 14:41:19

So far, this is the best of all the Scaldcrow supplements. It’s all about the DRAGONS!!

Although it is meant to be used in the DARK FANTASY OF SUNDRAH rpg its worth buying it to convert into whatever other game you may play. Honestly, this supplement has inspired me to start a DFoS game.

clean document, great art, no mispellings.

Like the other supplements, DRAGONFALL gives the reader 4 awesome new Contours, a super sweet new magical item I really want my GM let me quest for, a new college of magic spells, 2 new races for players and a bunch of creatures.

The contours are the Dirge (a martial artist who specializes in fighting dragons by binding demons into himself), the Dracomancer (guys who use dragon magic and magic that simulates dragon abilities) , the Warrior priest (a priest well trained and sponsored by his church to fight demons and dragons and those who will align with them) , and my personal favorite - the Wu Xia (a champion of the people who fights tyranny and the government for the people)

The two races are also neat, a dragon man type called a Dragao and a naga type of race called an Abandi. Each is very neat and I can see that they are gonna be more than a match against any Dirge who confronts them.

The best part of DRAGONFALL is that all throughout the main rule book we learn how bad the dragons of the world of Sundrah are, but here they are defined. Yea, believe the hype.

All the creatures in this supplement are dragon like or dragon kin including the must have dragon familiar. Oh, other games just got envious.

There is a section in here explaining how to use Elemental Emblems and I have to say that they must have been inspired by the Dragonball franchise. If your into using multiforms you’ll love this. My brother rolled one up, and I have to say his character looks pretty damn tuff. We’re gonna have to have a test combat to see.

Buy this book. You will never regret it.

Scaldcrow Generic: Town of Hokum
by Lomax L. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/01/2009 02:11:18

Scaldcrow Games has made perhaps one of the best generic supplements I have ever read.

“The Town of Hokum” is mad brilliant. Let me break it down for you…

For starters this is a town that can be used in any game setting or any system. True, Scaldcrow Games has its own rule system, but this supplement is generic and converts to any system you like. As a GM I have to say that finding a product like a city or book of NPCs that I want to use in my game is hard. Most supplements out there are built solely for their own system and unless you want to play that system you’re out of luck. Hokum is a standalone town with NPCs that can be used in ANY game and the conversion is easy. If you can do something as difficult as buying a product on-line, you can convert this supplement to your gaming system, I promise.

You gotta love the maps! Clean, neat, clearly labeled and my favorite feature, a few places left to my imagination. The houses look like houses and the trees look like trees. I don’t have to stare at anything and try to figure out what it is, what direction it’s facing or what all those crazy lines are like maps in other games. Clean maps that are easy to read. A few of the buildings are unmarked so as a GM I can make them whatever I need for my own game, and the back of the book has a page for me to make notes on what I added to the town. Everything all in one place.

The overview of the town gives exactly the right amount of information. I hate it when the time line starts with simple cell division and marks every event that happened every year for the towns first 800 years up until the very moment the PCs enter town. How many times do you ever need that information? Hokum breaks down the government, economy, laws and major holidays in like half a page. Its what you need to run the town.

Additionally, the major establishments like the town inn and bar are described as well as the NPCs that are attached to each. Again, exactly the right amount of information is given--costs of stuff and descriptions. I feel as if I know and have used this supplement and its NPCs.

All good supplements have a monster or creature in it and Hokum being a great supplement has two— BLOODY BONES and a vampire beast. Bloody Bones is one creepy thing that goes bump in the night. The vampire beast is so kewl that PCs are gonna wanna go to Hokum just to hunt the thing for sport or get one to tame up or have as a familiar.

Secret Societies – Hokum has six fully written up. Each one neater than the next and all appropriate for the setting. But I also thought the home grown Militia groups were an interesting twist. I can imagine there is great rivalry between them and the plot hook for these two aspects alone just write themselves. And there is a section for those too, plot hooks I mean. A bunch of story seed ideas are there and they all happen right there in Hokem, So again, no matter the system you are in you can use the plot hooks.

I also have to take a moment to point out the art. I like it. It was not over done and everywhere. It was there to compliment the text. And it was rendered very well. I hate that style of art where you have to stare at the picture like it’s some kind of magic eye painting to see what the heck you’re looking at. The Hokum art was clean and very printer friendly.

Hokum is a freaking awesome supplement. I could not believe it was so inexpensive, its easily worth twice the asking price. Best feature of all – it is a printable number of pages. I don’t order a lot of stuff cause by the time I print the book out it cost more than a hardback gaming book. This is under 30 pages, simple art and like no color to speak of. I can see me using the town of Hokum in a lot.

Bravo Scaldcrow games!

Scaldcrow Digest I: Arcane Mysticism
by Jim H. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 11/18/2008 18:41:57

Having played The Dark Fantasy of Sundrah for a little while now, i feel that this is a excellent companion to the core book. It gives magic users more options, and includes a new race contour! I have used the Arcane Mysticism sphere in one of our games. I appreciate the adaptability & utility of the many spells within this sphere. I would definitely recommend this item to any Sundrah Spell-slinger. Awesome job all around...
