Kev's Lounge Paper Minis: A Day at the Market (Deluxe Edition)

Very lovely tokens, and I am impressed with how all the image variation is implemented via PDF layers. I've used several of these in the past couple of weeks, and my players always pick them out for praise and attention.

Adellos Medieval Token Set 4: Peasents

This is a great set of tokens, and in the short time I've owned them, they fill in a very necessary setting need for our urban adventures.

I did knock the product one star due to the fact that they all have 'setting' backgrounds in them. Meaning there is a farm or field or some other kind of background behind each token. I do honestly wish there was a set without the background. Say I'm using these tokens in a doss (standing sleep) house. The portraits/stances are great, but the background really kills the immersion.

Still, It's a good, Unique set, and I'll probably pick up a few more.

Ghouls are Creepy
Publisher: Paizo

I like that the product doesn't claim to be more than what it is; a few pages of descriptions of Ghouls. My players loved the humor in the descriptions when I used them recently, transforming a mundane 'ghoul' into an encounter that was both funny and memorable. The 'Digger' was a big hit, and completely freaked the party out.

Sure, I could quibble and say that the content could be condensed into fewer pages, but that's a pretty small complaint. All in all, well worth the price (and I payed double for the sheer enjoyment of it).

Shadow World: Aalk Vaalg: Citadel of Osaran

Another strong product from Mr. Amthor. The module, which CAN be run stand alone, ties in nicely to his newest Shadow World Sourcebook "Haalkitaine & the Court of Rhakhaan".

Similar to the last module released "The Haunted Village", this module is a well put together. It consists of illustrative scenes, 2 or three generous maps with numbered layout details, and a good bit of background material. It doesn't have gorgeous level maps, but those that are here are straightforward, clean and well explained. Stats for opponents are collected at the back of the module for two different versions (RMSS/RMFRP & RM2/RMC), which makes it easy for the GM to find everything in one place.

One crticism I can see being leveled at it would be that it seems a bit spare when compared to other gaming system modules. I can see that, however in a sandbox-style game I personally love this kind of delivery. Enough content for the scenes in the module to make sense, yet completely devoid of any kind of railroading.

Other quibbles might consist of the lack of bookmarks, although in 20 pages it could be seen as a luxury. Player maps would be nice too, or at least the use of PDF layers to allow level and area maps to be easily captured without numbering. The text is clean and well layedout and in high-resolution for clean printing. Everything here should make use on a VTT very easy.

For a $2 price tag, this is a great deal for any GM, even more so for those interested in Shadow World.

The Loremaster Legacy
Publisher: Terry K. Amthor

I put off reading this for some time, but I wish I hadn't after reading it. This intricate tale gripped me from the start and drew me effortlessly into this incredibly complex and detailed world. Honestly it still holds my thoughts several hours after finishing it. As an insight to what is going on in the fascinating environment of "Shadow World", you couldn't ask for a better guide than Mr. Amthor. However, even if you put the setting aside, the book is incredibly easy to read, with well formed characters, believable personalities and realistic interactions. I especially liked the astute way the author weaved the threads of magic and technology; the combination is quite persuasive and believable. Similarly, the interactions of various Powers (both directly and indirect), were welcome and a vast step above the normal fantasy novel.

I have read (somewhere) that the 2nd book in the series is all but written, and I heartily hope that it will be polished off and published. Together with the first book, I could easily see myself buying multiple copies of, if nothing else to give as gifts to fellow fantasy reading friends. I have no doubt that they will have similar experiences. Best purchase I've made in some time, and I'm sure it will keep haunting my memory for many days.

Shadow World: Eidolon: City in the Sky

Incredible resource book, well worth the money. I've never found anyone who does such a good job of providing relevant, insightful and deep detail as Mr. Amthor, and he doesn't disappoint here. Truthfully, it's almost a jaw-dropping amount of detail on the city(s) inhabitants, factions, culture, institutions, etc. For example, the government section gives us multiple (10?) pages of details about the the Sel-Kai government, taxes, important city functions, justice (i.e.. who delivers it and how, severity of crimes, penalties), important city families, etc.... Add in a multitude of pages that describe various city structures, weather, herbology, languages, secret organizations, etc.... and it's easy to be overcome.

I hesitated to buy it as it didn't have RMU's changes in it, but frankly I'm tired of waiting for RMU, and don't regret that decision one bit. Yea the conversions will be a pain, but my overall satisfaction and general utilty of this resource will more than make up for it.
