This was a fun module to run. Starting in a fighting pit always catches my player's attention, followed by the randomness that they find in the mine proper made for an enjoyable time for everyone.

With player input. 5 stars. Bonus for the Boar pit and Falling Stone mine maps. Everyone agree just use a regular font on Players Handout 1. I like the set up and various ways to get around part 1. Part 2 is just combat monster. My players did not like the exhaustion because I did not remove it for part 3. But they were a very strong group. We all enjoyed the mine cart ride which I added an athletics check to bring them to stop. The random roll for boss monster location was fun also. I did play under Season 11 rules.

This a great adventure, with many memorable and deadly challenges. The avalanche claimed one hero, the chase in the minecarts another. Combat in the end can drag a bit as mentioned below, as many of the adversaries are resistant to mundane weapons, but overall everyone had a great time. Don't see how this could possibly be run in anything less than 7-8 hours without seriously shortcutting the game play. I recommend!

The supplied maps are black and white scanned line drawings. They are a blurry mess. They are also already on a blurry grid and there is no line of site (LOS) setup for use in Fantasy grounds. Would have cost nothing to supply a higher resolution scan without a grid.

Here is an extract of what the whole map looks like http://www.passmark.com/images/forumimages/MapBlur-David-20200101.png

I am just debating if they are too shoddy to use, or to redo them all.

Some of the best of AL Season 2. In giving this five stars, I don't want to imply it's revelatory or mold-breaking or something to write home about. But it's among the best adventures of the first two seasons of Adventurer's League, and if that's not worth rewarding, then what is? Mayhem in the Earthspur Mines presents an adventure of uncommon scope for Adventurer's League - you certainly won't be finishing this one in three hours - starting in a pit-fighting arena, moving into an overland journey, and finishing with a dungeon delve filled with multiple set-piece encounters. It makes good use of uncommon opponents from the Monster Manual, it has characters with real complexity and pathos, it provides multiple ways for players to approach the content, and it's great at set-up and pay-off of plot points, both for and against the players. The biggest disappointment is probably not the fault of this module, but of later ones - a major plot point for the AL season that's set-up at the module's conclusion is then ignored until the season's climax, at which point the players' decisions here are ignored and irrelevant. Overall, highly recommended.

Season 2 module. fairly good module. i wish the older season would get played more than they are. it would be interesting to see previous season played with the new season 9 rules

This is both one of my favorite modules to run and the only module in which I have ever had a party wipe.

I'd say the biggest concerns for this module are resource consumption (large numbers of small fights in the mines themselves) and the danger of the optional (but likely) bulette encounter. A melee-focused party will have a particularly tough time with the bulettes (that's where I wiped a party).

Additionally, the size of the mines section themselves can cause the module to exceed time fairly easily. Consider moving the "functional" guardians to wherever the party goes first in the mines (i.e., the map is out of date) so that the party makes full use of their ability to reduce the number of available encounters.

I Cannot highly enough recommend this module! Lots of rolepay, combat and exploration options! Well written and could easily be played for a full 6 hour slot

I love all of the different choices for where the players can enter the dungeon. I also like that the big bad wanders around and can be encountered in various different locations. Every run of this module is just a little bit different.

This adventure has a lot of classic D&D elements (mine, well known BBEG, etc) that I really enjoy. It has a fun and useful magic item unlock.

The only problem is that it is very difficult to run in a 4 hour time slot. That is doubly true for the type of uncoordinated pick-up groups that occur at many AL tables. There are also some early elements in the module that might only involve a sub-set of the players at the table. This can make it difficult to keep the non-active players involved in the adventure.

The players at my table did enjoy the module, but I had to rush the ending more than I wanted in order to fit into the time slot. I would recommend skipping some of the repetitive encounters (gargoyles) in the mines and taking some time building suspense as the players try to track down the BBEG (who is much better at hit-and-run than stand-up fights).

I would plan on this adventure taking 6 hours (or even 8 hours if you have players who want to fully explore everything). To fit it into 4 hours, I would try to get through the first sections as quickly as possible so that players have 2 or even 2.5 hours to explore the mines. The mines have several interesting elements that take time to explore.

Adventure was fun to run, I especially enjoyed the exploration and social parts of the module. The combat was on the weak side though, having short/long rest opportunities after the majority of medium encounters at the start. The dungeon was kinda boring, only having one enemy type in the majority of rooms does get old fast. The Medusa was a very flavorful boss and also pretty challenging by itself, the addition of the nightmare was pretty neat as well.
Overall a good adventure, but kinda weak on the combat side.

I had a lot of fun running this adventure. There are a lot of moving parts and a sandbox dungeon which is great fun. The final boss is pretty fun too. The gargoyles become a bit of a slog after the tenth time of rolling for initiative though.

DDEX 2-04 Mayhem at the Earthspur Mine is an Adventure League adventure for levels 5-10 that should take about four hours to play. (Though it can easily go long) It is written for 5 characters of 6th level. This adventure contains a .mod file for use in Fantasy Grounds Virtual Table Top

This adventure is just getting an overall and not a breakdown for two major reasons, one because some of the parts can happen non-linearly depend on player actions and adventure hooks, and two I don't want this review to be as long as the adventure which can be forever long.

This is a good adventure and has the options for some cool scenes, like gladiatorial combat, but it also has road bump scenes that kinda steal player agency like when they get rescued from a horde of monsters in order to move the plot forward.

It also have some cool set pieces in a room like the lake of molten lava, but not really enough chances to use it. This adventure needs to be trimmed by the GM to suite the needs of his group, which is really hard to do in an Adventure League setting. As a home game I'd add this adventure in a heart beat, it's just that cool but you'll never experience the full cool of it in a 4 hour AL slot, or even a 6 slot. The XP budget on this one is crazy over depending on how you play it.

It has AL quality maps, maybe a little above, and it has a .mod file for use with Fantasy grounds Virtual Tabletop which is always a plus. It has over 6,000xp worth of encounters for each character in the average group but can only award 4,000xp to each character. Which is always tough. Still it's a fun module and can give plenty of characters opportunities to shine.

This is one of my favorite adventures. It has a bunch of fun elements and particularly rewards clever and forward-thinking players. This isn't the adventure for racing through and killing everything, but if you have a party with explorers and roleplayers, they'll probably have a blast.

PRO

  • fun introductory scenario
  • opportunities for exploration, roleplay, and combat
  • missions are tied in well with the ideals of the factions
  • places for characters with a variety of skills to shine
  • players have some excellent opportunities to make use of the environment (LAVA PIT)
  • a working mine (instead of a long-abandoned one) is a nice change, and the maps, NPCs, and situations in the mine give it a strong sense of place

CON

  • black pudding (my players' most-hated enemy)

Mulmaster getting old? TRY MINES INSTEAD! No seriously delve into this. A little rocky but it'll do.
